As of Monday, summer is officially here and thankfully, so is outdoor lounging and entertaining. While you may not clear out your patio and start fresh every season (nor should you!) it’s always fun to get a new piece or two this time of year and do a quick style refresh. Over the past five years or so, living rooms are going al fresco and the traditional patio set and grill of yesteryear have morphed into fully designed outdoor living rooms. We curated our favorite upscale outdoor living trends for you here.
Trend One: Concrete Coffee Tables

The mix of warm woods like teak and industrial concrete has never been more popular. Low maintenance for outdoor and durable, this is the ideal combination for an all-purpose coffee table. Pair with traditional woven furniture, teak or even modern metals and you’ve got an inviting, clean look.
Trend Two: Teak Outdoor Furniture

Teak has seen a major resurgence in recent years. It goes with every possible color combination and although may be a larger initial price tag, it will last for years and years. Page through any design magazine this summer and you’ll see no shortage of elegant teak outdoor living rooms.
Trend Three: Aqua

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again–you should never feel like you have to reinvent the wheel every season to be on trend. However, it’s never a bad idea to play with a few affordable updates to stay current. For summer 2016, the “it” color for outdoor living is aqua. It’s fun, fresh and so easy to incorporate into any neutral space with some throw pillows or a pouf.
Trend Four: Fire

Light it up! Fire pits and fire tables have come a long way from the campfire many of us remember from our childhoods. Chic, modern fire pits are the name of the game for 2016. We love this one from Restoration Hardware which is just as pretty lit as it is unlit. When shopping for these, make sure to look for fire pits made from low maintenance, attractive materials from reputable brands.
Trend Five: Chat Sets

While deep seating may be have been the hot trend of the past 10 years, the tide is slowly turning to chat seating sets. Better for small space living (or for creating zones within a large space), these intimate two to three person seating sets are typically more structured and modern than their cushy counterparts.
How are you updating your outdoor space this year? What’s your favorite trend for 2016?
