We love February in Atlanta. When people in other areas of the country are still shivering in their snow boots, we’re dusting off our flip-flops in anticipation of great spring weather. And while we might be jumping the gun a little bit on the flip-flops, we are pretty close to being able to comfortably take advantage of our outdoor spaces. This makes February an excellent time to get those home exterior upgrades in order that you were meaning to do last year but never got around to because of busy schedules or budget. The following are four ways to spruce up the outside of your house in anticipation of enjoying it even more this spring.
The deck is a place for entertaining, enjoying family meals outdoors and basking in sunshine. Why sit inside when you can breathe in some fresh air and get a little vitamin D while you’re at it? But how’s your deck flooring, railing or paint job looking these days? You might need a pressure wash to get rid of last year’s residue and extend the life of your deck, a new coat of paint to pretty it up or some fixes where floorboards or rails might be looking shabby. Or maybe you need a deck if you don’t already have one!
We call this the “house facelift” because exterior paint can completely change and update the look of your home. If done well, an exterior painting job lasts somewhere between 5 and 7 years in most climates. When was the last time your home was painted on the outside? Is the paint peeling or cracking? Then it may be time for a refresher. Call us for a free estimate.
Spruce Up: Outdoor Fireplace
Okay, so unless there’s another freak cold spell in store for us Atlantans or your kids really want to make some smores, you might not actually use your fireplace for several months. But isn’t it a great time to install one—BEFORE you actually want it in the fall? So often we tackle outside home-improvement projects after the season in which we would use it. This year, choose to make your improvements in advance so you can enjoy the home exterior upgrade in the upcoming season. And hey, if you’re already renovating your patio or deck, this is a great add-on.
Speaking of patios! You might be wondering what exactly is the difference between a patio and a deck. They both allow you to enjoy the outdoors on a solid surface. The materials used is the biggest distinguisher between the two—patios are typically made of pavers, concrete, brick or even pebbles, while decks are usually made of wood or a composite material that looks like wood. Have you been itching to create the patio of your daydreams? Let’s make it happen!
